As an educator enthusiastic to share his knowledge, Alvin has taught in various class sizes and settings on different musical topics. Passionate to fostering an respectful and inspiring learning environment, he cultivates and emphasizes discussions and conversations in class and encourages students to see multiple perspectives. He has experiences teaching a wide range of topics, including post-tonal music (e.g., 12-tone serialism, set theory, scales and modes) and instrumentation, as well as providing advice and feedback on student composition projects that varies in styles and mediums, from acoustic chamber concert music to works that involves electronics, video, and theatrical elements.

From September 2015 to July 2019, Alvin also served as the Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra at Po Leung Kuk Centenary Li Shiu Chung Memorial College, a secondary educational institution. In addition to conducting a student orchestra of around 30 members, he worked with the student cabinet on the operations of the orchestra, including event programming and promotion, players recruitment, as well as scheduling of events and rehearsals.
